I't not where you put the key in, but further down the steering column. Have a friend for 3 years. After many tows, and dealer stays, an independent mechanic found that the switch would make contact sometimes , and other times not. That's why it was so hard to trouble shoot. If you Google it, you will find it is a very common problem on Jeeps. Cheap fix ! Hope that is what the problem is. Had a friend with that Jeep, and fought the same problem for 3 years. Right at the point of replacing the Jeep,a local independent shop found that the ignition switch would maintain contact, and sometimes not, hence it would "die" in traffic, or not start sometimes, and other times worked fine. Every time it was towed to the dealer, they could not make it fail. After all that , it was a very inexpensive repair. BTW, the switch is not where you put the key in, but further down the steering column.
